As part of any 4x4 recovery kit you need plenty of quality shackles, and Mean Mother Bow Shackles fit the bill. Common uses include attaching recovery straps, winch extension straps, tree trunk protectors, and snatch blocks. The Bow type shackle is the most commonly used in 4x4 recoveries as it allows for bulkier items to be attached.

Note: shackles can become a dangerous and even lethal projectile if something should breat or fail during 4x4 recovery. Never load a shackle across its width because the load will be imposed on the thread - ie. the force must be at right angles to the pin. Always inspect a shackle before use and if the pin is hard to turn or the shackle has been overstressed, it should be immediately replaced.
